Walter Nickerson

If you enjoy the river, walk through the wood shop, or visit the Welcome Center you are sure to meet Walter Nickerson.  Walter has been a state park volunteer for over four years.  He can be seen throughout the park at least five days a week, usually in conversation with Guests and staff.  Walter was born in Indiana, moved to Virginia, then made his way to South Florida.  In 1990 he moved to Ocala to be near the river.  Silver Springs State Park gives Walter the opportunity to enjoy his passion while making a difference.  Walter is the Vice President of the Friends of Silver Springs State Park.  When not working nights at the Ocala Star Banner, Walter is also active in the Living History of the museum, Aquatic Motor Patrol, Outreach Program and the Concert Series.
